Metropolitan Museum

This has been about the tenth time I go to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. This time I went with my little cousin because he also had to go on a field trip there so I decided to take him. It was nice because while he was doing homework I was as well. And he kept asking me a lot of questions.
What I like about this museum is that it has different artworks from a variety of places.

Three of the sections I chose were from the European, Islamic and Roman Art. One of the reasons I chose the Islamic Art work was because I admire the clothing they use. I was always interested in their religion and beliefs. From this exhibit three things that the artworks have in common are that they all have people doing some type of work. They evoke a feeling of determination and leadership.

Then I chose the European Art work because my little cousin stayed in this exhibit longer and was drawing some of the artworks. One of the reasons I chose each of these paintings out of the rest was because it brought back memories. I remember back in High school in history class, when I was learning about Alexander the Great. Besides the three being European pieces of art work they were both done around the 15th century.

Last but not least is the roman sculptures that I always admired. A person taking the time to do all those sculptures is really something to be impressed about. The similarities that they have are that the sculptures are wither missing a part of their body, In this exhibit most of the sculptures were missing  either a hand, a arm or an leg. My favorite is the statue of Aphrodite, since she is the Goddess of Beauty.

Over all these pieces together give a sense of determination. They all show how much effort the artist put in to construct these pieces of art work. The good thing about these museums is that people from around the world could come and admire them. Instead of these artworks being all thrown in a basement somewhere, who knows.

Chelsea Galleries Reaction

The artworks in Chelsea gallery were one of a kind. I wonder how much each of the pieces of art cost. To be an art collector, I think you must have a lot of money depending on how much the art cost. I don’t think the artworks should be sold to make profit, because everyone should have a chance to view them. There are hundreds of galleries in Chelsea and anyone who likes art should visit them in the west side of Manhattan.

The artwork that I disliked was from the Gagosian gallery. I found this artist type of work more simple than the rest. It was all in black and white and images that didn’t call my attention. I also don’t like seeing nude pictures of people, it makes me very uncomfortable. One of the artworks was the “Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky”, which I don’t find to be a good investment. I mean who would buy a picture of two naked guys and collect it.  The other artwork in this gallery was the “Andy Warhol and members of The Factory”. I disliked these artworks but I suppose there is a lot of other other people that like them and use them as collections, for them to be in a gallery. Personally I would keep this artwork in storage because I don’t think it would be a good investment.
On the other hand the artworks that I liked were from the artist Ernesto Neto. The works of art were the Island bird and Labor from the Tania Bonakdar Gallery  I found his artworks to be very attractive and profitable. I would buy the Island bird for my self but I bet it cost a lot of money and many art collectors are ready to buy it. It looks like a huge house for birds. People and children can get in it and play or even lay down and relax. I  also like the artwork Labor because its like a small office where people can go sit down and it has a nice surrounding. What calls my attention the most about this artist is the colors he uses, I find them very cute and playful. All of his artworks are beautiful and I would put them on display.

I would have never thought of going to Chelsea to see all these galleries and I’m glad I experienced the chance to do so. There are many people who should get a chance to view all these artworks and who  knows might even want to invest in buying one just like I do. There are many beautiful artworks and others that I didn’t like as much. I plan on going there again with my uncle who is also and artist because he said he was planning on showing his own collection.

“Sculpture Center Reaction”

The sculpture center was very unique in the fact that the pieces of artwork were not only reflected upon then but also on their backgrounds. This museum was a place where installation and site specific affected the artwork. Installation means the way the artwork is presented and arranged within a space. And Site specific means the way that the art work has been meant to be shown in a specific way and space.

One of the artworks that I selected was the ‘’Rope Piece‘’. It was attached from one wall to another and I think it was the best way for this piece to be demonstrated. If it was just thrown on the floor, it wouldn’t be considered that of a great of an art piece. Its site specific is perfect and you get a different perspective. If the rope would have just been laying in a flat surface, then it wouldn’t have looked as interesting as it is.

Another piece of art work is the “Droplight”. Its basically a long piece of cable with a flashlight. Its basically just laying on the floor occupying a lot of space. Its installation is well presented because it is a long piece and I don’t picture another way for it to be seen. The length of the cable is 157.5 inches and it has a rubber bulb holder. This was one of the pieces that Didn’t understand how it is considered an artwork.

The third piece of artwork is called “Water Tank”. Its installation fit perfect for its size because it’s a small piece. It contained water in the inside. It also reflects how the artist considered the dimensions of the space and its background even matches. When considering pieces of artworks like this an artist must have thought deeply of its installation and site specific.

I wonder if the installation or site specific of an artwork is ever wrong. Maybe not because it’s the own artist who creates their work. That’s why different artworks change our perception of space. Every piece of artwork is unique and has its own way to represent its meaning.

“Design in Our Lives”,

Design is always present in our daily lives. We don’t notice but it’s there. There’s design in the way we eat, the cloth we dress and even our homes. The Museum of Modern Art showed us a lot of different types of designs. Some of the objects for in this museum are made for the real world utility and others as ideas for the real world. In this essay I will be describing some of the works I found to be high functionality and low functionality.
One of the objects that I found to be of low functionality is the Social Tele-presence. It is defined to have visual and auditory senses operating live non- virtual location remote. When a person wears it, it removes their eyes and ears from the body’s location to operate somewhere else. I chose this one as a low function because you cannot always have a machine talk for you. It takes away who a person really is. For example it says that this robot can be used on a date for people who are shy. It’s better to confront shyness than hide behind a machine and let it do all the work. Even though the object is of low functionality, it has a good design. It is very creative and of interesting use.
Another low functional object I found was the Good Grips Jar Opener. I mean why continue making different types of jar opener, when that invention is already made. In my opinion is not such a good design because it doesn’t seem original.  It doesn’t have any type of creativity compared to other designs. I don’t think it was the best object to choose to design and improve because the original one seems to work well for me.
I found The Garden in the Machine to be of high functionality. It is amazing and should be invented for the future. The fact that it has many rooms and high buildings. The way it is designed has no comparison to the other objects. Not only this object is highly functional but it also has good design. Any person would love to live in a place like that. It should be created now that the population of humans is growing and we need more space. This one was one of my favorite objects that I admire.
Another object I found to be of high functionality is the Nature City. It’s really beautiful and would be a very famous place to live in the future. It reminds me of the white house in Washington D.C. It’s interesting how a neighborhood to live could be made in the middle of a forest. That hasn’t been seen but it is a good idea. This object doesn’t need to be made more ergonomic than what it already is. The only thing I dislike is that we have to destroy the environment of other animals to make a new one. As long as not a lot of these objects are made I guess is not such a bad idea.
I really enjoyed going to the Museum of Modern Art again. These works of art are all creative and grab a viewer’s attention. I hope one day in the future some of them could be in use so I can try it. I didn’t know how much ergonomics could influence our lives, but now I know that it is even in our future. It’s everywhere and decisions we make are always surrounded by these designs.

Illustrate a story

This story reminds me of my relationship with my grandfather. Just like the two daughters in the story, I love my grandpa Victor. I remember when I was twelve years old, I went to Georgia with my cousins and stayed there with my grandparents over the summer. My grandfather always use to take us fishing and do community service. I have a lot of memories there back when I was younger. Now my grandpa is 80 years old and I always talk to him on the phone. Sometimes he doesn't remember my name and there are times he does. He always tells me to follow my dreams and that everything I learn nobody can steal it. My grandpa is also funny like the father in the story. I will always love my grandfather and God bless him.

“MoMA PS1: The Good, the Bad, and the Misunderstood”

I have never visited the Moma PS1 museum, it’s a really nice one. I went there with my friend and her cousins. I really enjoyed the viewing the artworks and taking pictures. It was hard to choose which one I liked because most of them were really beautiful that I had a hard time to choose.
One of the paintings that I misunderstood was the one called “American Beautiful” . I do understand that there is an American flag but I don’t know if its an animal under it or a human. it’s a bit confusing because I know is there is a deeper meaning than calling America beautiful. The artist is also trying to say something else. To me it jus looks like a animal covered with the flag of the United States on top.
One of the artworks that I disliked is called “The Madmen” by Enrique Marty. The reason I don’t like this piece is because its really scary and creepy. I don’t like things that scare me and it reminds me of my nightmares when I was a little girl. I always use to dream of a tall zombie with an egg head chasing me. This artwork made me remember my nightmare, which was a bit disturbing.
One of the paintings I admired was called ‘’The Long Jump’’. Before people use to play basketball for the passion and love they had towards it. Now some players play it for the money. This painting also reminds me back in the days when I use to love in Brooklyn by a small park. I always use to see my neighbors play basket in that small park and I enjoyed watching them. The basketball player in the painting even looks like one of my neighbors named Corey. His skin a really dark color, tall and handsome.
In conclusion there is no bad painting because every painting has its own meaning. The artist of the artwork did his painting that way  for a reason and sometimes the viewer but not get it but makes its own interpretation. Good artwork doesn’t necessarily always needs to give us all the answers but catch out attention in some form that keeps our eyes on in. It also makes us wonder and ask questions about it, which makes it more interesting.

The Moma Museum

This was my first time visiting The Moma Museum. It was a fun experience because I never seen these types of interesting art work. I even touched one of the art pieces and got yelled at because I thought the security said I could. There were 3 pieces of art that called my attention.

One of the art pieces that amused me was the Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Pablo Picasso. It’s a Spanish painting from 1881- 1973. What I like about this painting is the form that the artist painted the bodies. It is very unique and the way the faces are shown. You can’t tell if it’s a female or a male because they look like they have both aspects. The light colors make the painting stand out.

The second piece of  art that catched my attention was by Vincent Van Gogh, The Starry Night. It’s a painting done oil on canvas and this one was my favorite. I like the background of the painting it has a magical sense of feeling. The colors blue and yellow fuse together and make he painting stand out. The painting looks realistic because it has a sense of perspective. The stars and moons in the background, while in the front are big leaves and small houses.

The third piece of art work is called One. It was done by the American Jackson Pollock, 1912-1956.  This painter did his work by lying the canvas flat on the floor. It looks as if he just grabbed the brush and started throwing the painting one on top of the other, to give it a messy look. It is an interesting painting because you can see painting stand out by the way one is over the other.

I would like to return to the museum one day and keep looking at the rest of the art work, I didn’t get a chance to see. One day I’ll go back and take more pictures with my family members. The work is admirable and very talented.
